This simple Fresh Tomato Salsa (Pico de Gallo) is best served with tacos or as a dip for tortilla chips. At home, we also use it as a condiment when eating nachos.
Growing up, I never heard anything about salsa. I just learned about it since coming to Canada. Since I started eating nachos and tortilla chips, then I begin to really like Mexican salsa. I love making fresh tomato salsa. Why? Because it's healthy and is very easy to make. You can make this salsa in less than 10 minutes. The reason I love this salsa recipe is that it doesn’t require a lot of ingredients and preparation. It is also my way of getting rid of tomatoes, if I have a lot of it in the refrigerator, so nothing goes to waste.
Recipe Ingredients
Tomatoes – The seeds and stems are removed, then chopped finely.
Red onions – I prefer finely chopped red onions. Large chopped onions can be overwhelming to the palate, unless you like that intense onion flavor then go ahead and prepare how large you want to chop it.
Lime juice – Removed any seeds from the juice. Can be substituted with lemon juice.
Cilantro – The cilantro can be finely chopped or coarsely chopped.
Ground cumin – The cumin required for this recipe is not much, but it sure adds a unique flavor. You can also add more if you love cumin in your food.
Salt – fine salt is preferred for this recipe.
